Cofunds host RDR: One Year On

On 22nd November 2012 we discussed RDR beyond the theory; the challenges and opportunities ahead. This was the first time that an independent company had communicated interactively with advisers on this subject and the activity established Cofunds as not only a leader in the sector but also attracted over 800 live views and a 72% increase in financial adviser web traffic to the Cofunds’ dedicated RDR webpage after the show. Clearly this was a topic that the public wanted and needed to know about.

It’s now a year after RDR happened and the industry’s interest has only intensified. Shedding some much needed light on the subject are our panel of financial experts, poised and ready to discuss how the predictions last year compare with what is happening in the financial sector now.

The panel includes Andy Coleman (Cofunds), John Porteous (Baker Tilly Financial Management), Richard Allum (The Paraplanner) and Paul Penny (Financial Discounts Direct). Andy Coleman, Director of Distribution at Cofunds, heads up Retail and Institutional Sales Teams at Cofunds. Nationally responsible for all Private Client Financial Planning and Investment Management services along with Link2wealth, John Porteous specialises in goals-based financial planning, particularly around retirement and inter-generational wealth transfer. An advocate for financial planning, Richard Allum is a pioneer of outsourced paraplanning in the UK and the first paraplanner to be elected to the Board of the UK’s Institute of Financial Planning. Last but by no means least is Paul Penny, Financial Discounts Direct. Paul has over 20 years’ experience in Financial Services and will be adept in highlighting the effect of regulation on self-directed investors.

A lot of us left last year’s discussion with the fundamental expectation that RDR would increase transparency within the financial sector, thus promoting ‘professionalism’, a term we all felt reassured by. Packed with industry insight and highlights from last year’s show it’ll be exciting to see if any metaphorical financial hats are being eaten after the panel are reminded of previous comments and predictions. Even more exciting, the show will discuss the upcoming changes to regulation – PS13/1, introduced to change the way platforms earn money. Said change is due to be implemented next year and our panel will discuss the impact this will have both now and come 2016 when all legacy business is also affected.

We’re looking forward to finding out how everyone can work together to make this happen. Tune in on 28 November at 12pm to see the debate in action, and you can have your say by submitting your burning question to the panel here. You can also tweet questions using #CofundsRDR
